It was a fantastic evening of celebration, awards, lucky raffle winners, crazy quizzes, creative selfies and random karaoke microphone hijackers too! Our photographer took some super pics to capture the evening which we’ll share with you soon!

The annual awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements of Acacia students and their tutors. We also raise funds for the British Heart Foundation in memory of the much loved and respected Acacia Learning tutor, Mark Robertson (14 August 1963 – 18 March 2014).

Livia Chan – Winner of Star Student of the Year!

Livvy received an overwhelming number of votes for star student of the year and we have to agree she is a very worthy winner of this year’s accolade.  Congratulations Livvy for all of your amazing achievements this year are throughout your CIPD study journey with us and your family, colleagues, friends and fellow Acacia learners too! We’re all right behind you and wish you every success with your future career and goals. Here are just a few of the standout nominations we received for Livia.

“Livvy has been a fantastic addition to the team. She is very enthusiastic and thoroughly engaged with both her work and the company. She goes out of her way to ensure she interacts in a positive way with everyone in the company and has been instrumental in bringing in much needed improvements within HR to our fast growing business.”

“Diligent, hardworking, personable and extremely capable. Also juggling full time work, moving house and changing job – amazing!”

“Livia has progressed significantly through the world of HR due to her commitment and dedication to really learn and understand the discipline, as well the application in the work environment.”

“Livia fully deserves this recognition while studying her CIPD qualification she was not only doing her own HR duties she was also covering the maternity of another HR colleague which was based on another site. Livia overcame working 2 people’s jobs, stress and a company restructure to complete her course. If that’s not a star pupil I don’t know what is!”

“I managed Livia when she worked for Aspire and her work ethic and diligence was excellent. She was dedicated to her studies as well as managing the HR functions at 2 different sites. She challenges herself and surpasses expectations. And on a personal note she’s always been funny too and approachable. Very well rounded and integral part of our team.”

“She has done so well in her career, starting as receptionist to becoming an HR Manager at her last place of work and now she is a standalone HR Manager for an SME. Constantly learning, adapting, critically thinking, she will go even further in her HR career for sure.”

“Livia has excelled far in her HR career within a relatively short amount of time.”

Top Tutor of the Year was awarded to Marco Van Dyk!

This year we received a record number of student nominations for our fantastic team of tutors. However, it was Marco who pipped Tristan and Anne to the post! Marco has been teaching CIPD level 3 and 5 for us since 2015 and in that time has quickly become a real asset to our team. A family man and loving father to three young children, Marco clearly has a lot of passion and a natural flair for teaching as well. He always goes above and beyond to support Acacia learners and is constantly adapting to their learning needs. Here are just a few of the nominations Marco received. Psst! He can even grow Acacia trees! #GrowWithAcacia

“Marco is the most inspiring tutor and person I have met in my life. The workshop was an absolute pleasure and he is simply amazing. Extremely knowledgeable, a great delivery in class and with a great attitude towards his students. He offered extensive guidance both as a group and individually. It was an honor to be in Marco’s class.”

“He is awesome. Always made lectures interactive and fun. Was always supportive and approachable.”

“His honest sharing of his wealth of professional and personal experience always ensured that all of the students were engaged in the tutorials. I always felt that mine and others contributions to the classes were relevant and valued.”

“Really engaging sessions and shares good examples of personal experience. Very personable and adult to adult style.”

“Very helpful and quick on providing guidance. Not just on the course but also real HR issues.”

“I was fortunate to have Marco tutoring me for 4 out of 6 modules on the level 5 certificate course this year. I was so nervous starting the course as I hadn’t been in education for over 20 years. Marco was always supportive and encouraging to me and all of the students. His tutorials were engaging and he was always available before and after the sessions to answer my many questions as well as replying promptly to my emails. I didn’t have current projects or experiences on which to base my studies but he was always happy to discuss suitable options for my assignments. His support materials and reading list were a great help when completing my assignments as well. His honest sharing of his wealth of professional and personal experience always ensured that all of the students were engaged in the tutorials. I always felt that mine and others contributions to the classes were relevant and valued.”

“A really supportive tutor (he helped me & other co-students during our break with a difficult assignment that we were doing for another module & tutor). Just a caring, compassionate person, really invaluable for students who are combining busy, stressful full time work with degree level studies. It can be a really lonely experience at times otherwise.”

“Very friendly and made learning fun. Treated the class like adults and allowed everyone to learn in their own way!”
